فكرة عمل المؤشر:
يهدف المؤشر إلى التعرف على الفترات التي يكون فيه السوق فى أعلى درجات النشاط، فهو لا يهدف إلى تحديد اتجاه السوق أو مدة هذا الاتجاه ولكن فقط قوة تقلبات حركة الأسعار سواء كان الاتجاه صاعدًا أو هابطًا.
ففى هذا المثال بالرغم من هبوط السوق فى اتجاه واضح ولكن نلاحظ ضعف الحركة الاتجاهية وكما نرى المؤشر فى اتجاه هابط مؤكدًا ضعف الاتجاه الهابط.
