● تقوم فكرة عمل المؤشر على الإشارة إلى وجود اتجاه عندما يكون السوق فى أعلى درجات الاتجاه. أي أنه مؤشر اتجاهي يبحث فقط عن الاتجاه القوي (DM-Directional movement).
● اشتق مؤشر (ADX) من مؤشرين آخرين تم تطويرهم بواسطة (WELLES WILDER) وهما (DI+) و (DI-)
حيث أن:
ADX: يقيس مدى قوة الاتجاه بغض النظر إذا كان هذا الاتجاه صاعد أو هابط.
DI+: يقيس قوة الاتجاه الصاعد.
DI- : يقيس قوة الاتجاه الهابط.
