عندما يقرر المستثمر أن يقوم بالإستثمار في أسواق فوركس، عليه أن يقوم بدايةً بفتح حساب هامشي مع أحد الوسطاء. عادة ما تكون قوة الرفع المقدمة هي إما 50:1 أو 100:1 أو 200:1، بالإعتماد على الوسيط وحجم الوضعية التي يتداول بها المستثمر، وأحيانا تختلف بحسب الزوج الذي يختار المتداول التداول به. يتم التداول القياسي على 100,000 وحدة من العملة، لذا، من أجل تداول بهذا الحجم، يكون حجم قوة الرافعة المالية المقدمة عادةً 50:1 أو 100:1. الرافعة المالية بمقدار 200:1 تستعمل عادةً مع وضعيات بمقدار 50,000$ أو أقل.
